Water and mountain views, dramatic sunlight, warm durable natural materials and outdoor beach living were the drivers of the design of this casual shingled beach cottage with a hip twist.

This non-descript "70’s" house had fallen into serious disrepair. However, charmed by the funky beach neighborhood with unobstructed southern exposure and dramatic views of Mt. Rainier, a young couple with their first baby only a month away purchased the home despite constant chiding from friends and family. They never had buyer’s remorse.

A total transformation occurred over the next 18 months as the house was stripped to the studs and completely reborn as a casual shingled beach cottage with a hip twist. The tight site offered little opportunity for changes to the overall size of the house, but creative shuffling of rooms and walls made the "new" house unrecognizable to even those familiar with the house before. The happy couple’s favorite saying these days… "Life is good laying in bed watching the ferry pass between your toes!"
